Where have  you placed your identity?

I love those one-liners, a word or question straight from the Kingdom.  They’re the ones that the Lord gives or questions that trigger a new revelation of His understanding.

Recently, I heard Him say something remarkable:

‘Did you know that midlife crises, burnouts and breakdowns – the world calls them that – But I actually call them identity crises? “

He then made this statement: “Many people place their identity in money, work, sport, children, family, even their ministry or husband/wife.” 

“However, when these aspects of life change or end, their sense of self-worth, or ‘identity’, often follows.  It simply walks out the door  or  leaves their life all together, with the one or the things they placed it on/in”. 

“Without a sense of self-worth or identity, my children’s lives can easily unravel.  Others, desperate to reclaim what they’ve lost, often push themselves too hard, leading to burnout”.  

“Your identity wasn’t meant to be based on these temporary things, that will eventually be gone. Instead, your identity was created for a design purpose that is eternal – ‘Me’ “.

“When you place your identity in Me (Christ), it remains with you forever. It’s not a temporary state; it’s an eternal relationship that transcends death, continuing to exist both in this world and beyond”.

So how do we do this ? 

Placing  your identity in Christ means the following. 

Grounding your worth, purpose and confidence in him allows you to let go of worldly labels, achievements and failures.  This shift in focus from external circumstances to unwavering spiritual truths becomes your new identity – a solid, unwavering foundation.  It’s a source of strength that can weather anything life throws your way, overcoming adversity and loss. Also incredible blessings, rewards and favour.  Paul describes this in Philippians 4:12-13, as shown below in two versions.

I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

I know what it means to lack, and I know what it means to experience overwhelming abundance. For I’m trained in the secret of overcoming all things, whether in fullness or in hunger. And I find that the strength of Christ’s explosive power infuses me to conquer every difficulty.

I think that’s enough for today!  Something this powerful is often better received with less.

Challenge Time

  1. Ask the Father this question: “Where have I placed my identity?”  Then write down what He says.
  2. Now, if it’s not in Him, you have a decision to make. Do you want it to stay where it is or do you choose to move it from there and place it in Him? 
  3. If you want it to remain where it is, then we end here. However, if you choose to remove it from its current location and place it in Him, pray a  prayer like this: “Father, today I choose to remove my identity from ……………… (where He showed you it was) and place it in you instead.” Amen.” Congratulations! Well done. I’m so proud of you.

Father, I thank you for this incredible revelation. It will unlock lives worldwide and set your children up for an incredible future with you at the centre. They will witness your powerful presence in their lives and be known as Yours. Amen.
