So here is a question to start us off !
Did Jesus turn water into wine ? Yes or No
Ok to answer this question leats read the account of this event and miracle. As you read this scripture I want you to look for the exact moment the water became wine ?
John 2:1-9
Now on the third day there was a wedding feast in the Galilean village of Cana, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples were all invited to the banquet, but with so many guests in attendance, they ran out of wine. And when Mary realized it, she came to him and asked, “They have no wine, can’t you do something about it?”
Jesus replied, “My dear one, don’t you understand that if I do this, it won’t change anything for you, but it will change everything for me! My hour of unveiling my power has not yet come.”
Mary then went to the servers and told them, “Whatever Jesus tells you, make sure that you do it!”
Now there were six stone water pots standing nearby. They were meant to be used for the Jewish washing rituals. Each one held about 20 gallons or more. Jesus came to the servers and told them, “Fill the pots with water, right up to the very brim.” Then he said, “Now fill your pitchers and take them to the master of ceremonies.”
And when they poured out their pitcher for the master of ceremonies to sample, the water became wine! When he tasted the water that became wine, the master of ceremonies was impressed. (Although he didn’t know where the wine had come from, but the servers knew.)
So when did the water become wine ?
The scripture above says ‘when they poured out their pitcher for the master of ceremonies to sample, the water became wine! ‘
Now lets re read the above scripture to answer a few questions
- Did Jesus lay hands on the servers ?
- Did Jesus lay hands on and bless the six stone water pots ?
- Did Jesus put His hands in the water ?
- Was there any mention of giving the Father thanks or Jesus praying for the water to become wine ?
Ok so Jesus did not do any of these things above. Yet the water turned in to wine !
So did Jesus turn water into wine ? Yes or No
Well we know the answer to this question by reading
John 2:11
This miracle in Cana was the first of the many extraordinary miracles Jesus performed in Galilee. This was a sign revealing his glory, and his disciples believed in him.
So the answer is yes !
So how did He do it ?
I believe this mystery, is the secret to seeing miracles happen in our life’s and ministries too.
As with this scripture and others of Jesus miracles He preformed, they reveal many ways to see miracles signs and wonders ! Revealing the Father and God’s nature !
As He said to Mose “I AM” a statement of wisdom, stature and overall authority. Showing to us He is a God that rules, reins and has no limits.
So how did Jesus preform this miracle of turning water into wine ?
The answer I believe is found in a conversation between Jesus and Phillip in John 14:8-10.
Lets read it
John 14:8-10
Philip spoke up, “Lord, show us the Father, and that will be all that we need!”
Jesus replied, “Philip, I’ve been with you all this time and you still don’t know who I am? How could you ask me to show you the Father, for anyone who has looked at me has seen the Father. Don’t you believe that the Father is living in me and that I am living in the Father? Even my words are not my own but come from my Father, for he lives in me and performs his miracles of power through me.
Did you see it ?
Even my words are not my own but come from my Father, for he lives in me and performs his miracles of power through me.
I believe the key to the miracle of seeing water turn into wine, was simply this, Jesus hearing the Father’s words and releasing the Father’s words.
“Jesus came to the servers and told them, “Fill the pots with water, right up to the very brim.” Then he said, “Now fill your pitchers and take them to the master of ceremonies.”
He knew that according to the scripture.
Isaiah 55:11
So also will be the word that I speak;
it does not return to me unfulfilled.
My word performs my purpose
and fulfills the mission I sent it out to accomplish.”
So the Fathers words through Jesus, were like a map or set of instructions straight from the Father !
When followed by the servers, they started a journey to completion of water becoming wine.
It’s interesting that the water did not become wine in the pots or the pitcher, But when it was poured out into the master of ceremonies cup !
Why you may ask ?
I believe at this point the servers had done all they were told to do and because they were faithful to obey every word. When they poured out the pitcher His word was tested. As the above scripture Isaiah 55:11 say. ‘My word performs my purpose and fulfills the mission I sent it out to accomplish.” So water became wine !
Why is this important and how does this relate to us !
While what Jesus did here ! We can do also ! I love this miracle, as what was impossible, became possible and happened by simplicity!
Let’s leave it there for today, In our next part we look at Jesus secret to hearing the Fathers voice. So He could hear the Fathers words and passed the instructions on to the servers.
Challenge Time
- Take sometime to worship
- Ask The Father ‘this question ‘Father how do I see you ?’ Write down the answer, include words, picture etc
- Then ask the Father this question Father please reveal yourself to me” write down what you see, once again include words picture etc.
- Which of the two things you have written down reveals Him more ? Which one do you want to see Him as, from now on ?
- If its current way you see Him, then that’s ok, But if it’s how He revealed Himself to you. Say “Father I choose today to lay down how I saw you……………. (Say what this was ) and I choose to pick up what You reveal to me, of who Your really are………….. (Say what you saw ). Thank you Father Amen.
Father I thank you that you are always calling us closer to Yourself. That You long to work your miracles through us. Like you did through Your Son Jesus ! We give you all the praise, honour and glory Amen.
