One day I was called into our new building for work to be done. As I was talking to the young man doing the work for us. He shared with me how he would so often see favour in his life !
From pulling into a carpark and a space awaiting there for him. That he needed something and it would just happen, turn up or be given to him. I shared that this was the Father revealing Himself to him through His goodness.
He seemed very interested, so I asked if he wanted to meet the Father. But he was very hesitant. So I left him to work and went to catch up with a friend, who had been trying to lead this guy to Christ for a long time !
This is when the Lord spoke to me a very unusual instruction. That still resounds in my spirit to this very day “I don’t want you to lead this man to salvation” He continued with an even more unusual statement. “I want you to lead him from salvation”
So as I returned, I brought him a coffee and I tried this new approach ! Within a very short time he was praying with me, for the Lord to enter his life, to be his Lord and saviour !
So why was this new way so successful. I wondered and pondered on this very thought. Then the Lord led me to a scripture where Paul talks about this very point
1 Corinthians 2:4
The message I preached and how I preached it was not an attempt to sway you with persuasive arguments but to prove to you the almighty power of God’s Holy Spirit.
So often we spend our time trying to attempt to sway people to turn, change and surrender. Also we justify our stance or opinions with persuasive arguments. The Why they should change, stop doing what they are doing and our reason we think they should.
Instead Paul is saying in this verse he did neither ! He just shared and proved the almighty power of God’s Holy Spirit. He stood in the presence of a Loving Father through His spirit, then called out to others to come, to enter and join him there !
Isn’t this a far easier and much more effective way of people meeting the Lord ! It takes a lot of pressure off us ! And also makes it a delight in doing His work.
I love how Paul continues and confirms what we have been talking today in the very next verse
For God intended that your faith not be established on man’s wisdom but by trusting in his almighty power. (1 Corinthians 2:5)
In simple terms, it is not what you know. But who you know and trust in, that will create the way for others to enter, encounter or experience Him.
From this place His goodness takes over and leads them to repentance !
……. Do you realize that all the wealth of his extravagant kindness is meant to melt your heart and lead you into repentance? (Romans 2:4)
His kindness, not our words, not our opinions or not our arguments – only His kindness will melt their hearts and lead them to true repentance (Salvation)
So Let’s finish today with a prayer !
Father will you allow us the honour, as Your children, called by your name. To be able to, from this day forward. To prove to those we meet, the almighty power of Your precious Holy Spirit. And in doing so, I believe that all the wealth of Your extravagant kindness. Will melt their hearts and lead them to repentance. A living encounter and a life long mission, of being a carrier and a host of your amazing Holy Spirit. To fulfil your commission, You left us with, before you departed this earth. Amen
